With proper care and understanding of the fabric characteristics, our upholstery pieces can be enjoyed for many years to come. We recommend the following cleaning and maintenance for your Christopher Guy upholstered piece:

• For general dust cleaning, vacuum or lightly brush on a regular basis
• Lightly brush with a suede brush any suede pieces
• Regularly wipe leather pieces with a dry cloth to remove dust and surface dirt
• If a leather or suede product is stained, contact a leather cleaning professional.

Fabric characteristics

Christopher Guy adheres to a very high standard of quality control in the sourcing and manufacturing process of all fabrics. Each range of fabrics has varying degrees of durability and colour fastness, depending on the way it is produced, its fibre content and the finishing process. The below list provides information on how each fabric is expected to perform.

• All fabrics will fade over time, the rate of which will depend on humidity, exposure to the sun and various other environmental factors. Fabrics in the same dye lot will have the same colour, though fabrics from a different batch of dye lot may vary in colour. The colours of two different dye lots may look the same under certain lights and may differ under other lights or in daylight. Our highly experienced and qualified quality controllers at Christopher Guy will accept a certain degree of dye lot variation when inspecting all types of fabrics.

Leather care: Introduction

Christopher Guy offers various types of leather with different colors, textures that are soft to the touch and of the highest quality.

Leather characteristics

Leather is a product of animal rawhide and each hide comes with its own unique characteristics such as colour variation, grains, scars and barb marks, and mild cellulite. Close-ups of the leather characteristics can be found under LEATHER CARE/ RECOMMENDATIONS. All square footage requirements are estimations. The shape of the hides supplied and the usable square footage may make it necessary to request more leather after COL is received and inspected.

Fading

Color fading of any fabrics is a direct result of a normal aging process. The degree of fading will depend upon the amount of light and sun exposure of each fabric; these exposures also play an effective role in the natural aging process of fabric.

Crocking

All fabrics are tested for color fastness. However, crocking (the ability of a fabric to transfer its color onto another fabric) is rare but possible. Because of the fibrous nature of many fabrics with pile, e.g. the Velvet range, Christopher Guy cannot guarantee against the occurrence of minor crocking during the lifespan of the fabric.

Cushion care

Cushions are made from soft materials and should be regularly plumped to maintain their shape and comfort. Carefully punch, prod and press on cushions and pillows to return them to their original shape.

Firmer cushions will generally require less plumping and softer ones with down feathers will take more. Any cushion being used should be plumped at least every few days to keep them looking its best.

• Fine mirror frames and decorative artworks should be kept away from sources of heat or humidity. Do not place them near any direct source of heat or allow prolonged exposure to open windows. Avoid allowing exposure to direct sunlight, which may cause finishes to fade.
• Remove household dust with a soft, clean cloth, dusting with the grain.
• For carved or irregular shaped frames, a very soft brush or feather duster will help to clean dust from hard to reach areas.
• Mirror panes should only be cleaned with specific glass or mirror cleaning products. Ensure that any cleaning fluid that comes into contact with the frame is removed immediately with a soft, damp cloth.

Rugs general care and cleaning

Christopher Guy recommends only the use of Woolite or similar compatible carpet cleaner for the cleaning of rugs. The cleaning process should involve applying the Woolite with a soft bristle brush, rinsing the water, and extracting with a vacuum cleaner. The rug should then be dried by air or low temperature hair dryer. Christopher Guy cannot guarantee that these methods will work and should be used as a guideline only. If in doubt, contact a reputable cleaner.

Almost all spills are removed by either dry cleaning fluid (follow manufacturer’s instructions) or a simple solution of one teaspoon of mild detergent with one teaspoon of white vinegar in a quart (or liter) of warm water. However, the best technique for cleaning your rug will vary greatly depending on the material and texture of the rug and the type of stain or soiling. The recommendations listed below are only suggestions, and Christopher Guy cannot guarantee successful stain removal. If in doubt, please consult a professional rug or carpet cleaning service.

Stone & Glass Care: Introduction

The Christopher Guy collections include pieces either with elements of or fully made from marble, limestone and glass. The three types of marble used in CG pieces are White Carrara, Nero Absoluto and Nero Marquina, and these are used in pedestals, coffee table bases or tops, and the tops of other tables and cabinets. Many CG sculptures are made from limestone. Tempered clear or black glass is used for the tops of some tables and cabinets. All of these materials have specific recommended care guides as below.
